Business tycoon Michael J. Connell built downtown LA’s first garment and textile manufacturing building in 1911, launching a mini-construction boom that lasted through the 1930′s. The heavy, concrete-frame construction and ornamental facades of the early 20th century industrial era characterized the architecture. All of these buildings sat largely unappreciated for decades. In 1998, a decade-long process to restore and re-adapt them for loft living began. The Eckardt and the Cornell at Santee Village are two of those buildings that were designated as local historic monuments in 2001.

The true loft units in the Eckardt, Cornell and Textile buildings at Santee Village reflect the historic look and feel of the fashion industry with oversized industrial windows, concrete floors and columns, high ceilings and lots of open space. You can feel the history and the inspiration as soon as you walk in the door.
